Only
the educated are free. Education's purpose is to replace an empty mind with
an open one. It
is possible to store the mind with a million facts and still be entirely
uneducated.
An education isn't how much you have committed to
memory, or even how much you know. It's being able to differentiate between
what you do know and what you don't. Education means inspiring someone’s mind, not just
filling their head. There are millions of children today who don’t attend
school. However, education is the only way to get ahead in this country. Education is one of the few things a person is willing
to pay for and not get. Education … has produced a vast population able to
read but unable to distinguish what is worth reading.
The principal goal of education is to create men who
are capable of doing new things, not simply of repeating what other
generations have done. The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior
teacher
demonstrates. The great teacher inspires. I
believe that it is better to learn from the diverse people around us than to
try in vain to emulate them, better to be a teacher than a role model. As strong as my legs are,
it is my mind that has made me a champion. Learning acquired in youth is an inscription on stone. No one is so poor as an ignorant person. Education is the power to think clearly, the power to act well in
the world's work, and the power to appreciate life. A teacher is better than two books.
