Other good places to search include web indexes compiled by editors. The Open Directory Project, Yahoo, and About.com are good examples. If your issue is not listed on their home pages, try their "a-z listings" and in-site search engines. For example, with "hunger issues," also search "starvation," "food programs," "food distribution," or "world poverty." It is probably not worthwhile to check beyond the first 20 links from each search. When looking for a specific group, search for its name in quotes. For example: "Hearts and Minds." The use of quotes is very helpful in limiting the search results to web pages with those words in that order. To make your search more accurate, you can connect two words or two phrases in quotes with a + (no spaces in between); the search will only show sites with both words or phrases in them. For example: "Hearts and Minds"+ volunteering. 4. Many people recommend Google.com as the best automated search engine. Also try Ask.com, Altavista, or others. Try several keywords for your topic. 5.
