You have the power to influence government leaders, the press and the public to help prevent brutal terrorism. Here is a letter you can send, followed by suggestions on how to make it much more effective: Dear ______: We face a tough challenge - ruthless acts of terrorism, thousands of innocent people killed, broken families, trauma to millions and escalating attacks worldwide. Growing dangers - some of these terrorists may already have chemical, biological and nuclear weapons. We cannot just respond only costly military actions. This doesn't get to the root of the problem. We need a more effective strategy to stop the criminals. We can outsmart the terrorists, encouraging their communities to help us deny them further recruits and support. Terrorists use psychological warfare. Here is how we can win this struggle - and also create a more peaceful, prosperous, and sustainable world. What we say and do can isolate the terrorists from further support. We can communicate much more strongly to Muslim countries and the world that:
With a shared dream of peace, clear communication and abundant resources, Western and Muslim countries together can make a much greater effort to address the root causes: poverty, totalitarianism, and human rights abuses that lead to fanaticism. This will demonstrate an infinitely better alternative to terror. It is VERY important that we back up our words with concrete, positive action. Just as the Marshall Plan did after WWII, a pro-active aid plan can get to the root of the problems that produce fanaticism. We should make every effort to make sure our message gets through to totalitarian countries like Iran and Syria, even if it requires saturation "bombing" them with literature and radio broadcasts. We support well-targeted efforts to bring the killers and their protectors to justice, but we look to you to set a fully constructive course - NOW - before it is too late. Sincerely, Your Name How to Effectively Use This Letter
