Seven Easy Steps for Sustainability
For Your Home and Community

Take care of the earth and she will take care of you.

  • Reduce, Reuse, Recycle by placing recycling bins around the house. Separate your bottles, plastics, and other recyclable items.
  • Re-use envelopes and paper. Use the back of sheets of paper. Use scrap paper for informal notes and use smaller paper for memos.
  • Rather than using plastic bags, take a canvas bag with you to the grocery store.
  • Recycle your batteries, especially the Ni-Cd ones since they are very toxic in landfills and can contaminate our water supply. Radio Shacks and other stores recycle them without charge. Find the battery collection sites nearest you.
  • Instead of using plastic wrap, store food in re-usable containers. Aluminum foil is easier to recycle than plastic wrap.
  • Dispose household products and waste liquids correctly by carefully reading the package instructions.
  • Use non-toxic cleaners to clean homes and avoid using pesticides. Many cleaning products and pesticides contain toxic chemicals that harm the environment and can make you sick.

We abuse land because we regard it as a commodity belonging to us. When we see land as a community to which we belong, we may begin to use it with love and respect.
