Humane Treatment of Farm Animals
A letter you can send

Dear (your elected representatives):

I am very concerned about the way animals are often mistreated on large factory farms. This causes unnecessary suffering for the animals and creates serious dangers for both public health and the environment.

I urge you to support legislation for more humane conditions. This can also ensure that buyers and producers of meat sustain a healthy life and environment.

Please sponsor and support legislation with targeted, well monitored programs to:

• Guarantee less crowded, more humane treatment of animals.

• Prevent feeding farm animals meat byproducts that can spread Mad Cow and other diseases.

• Subsidize 100% grass fed livestock, with less reliance on grain needed to feed the world’s hungry. Grain-fed meat is often higher in fat and cholesterol.

• Ensure less painful slaughtering of farm animals.

• Avoid excessive use of antibiotics.

• Encourage and subsidize sustainable agriculture, including organic farming.

Please let me know the specific ways that you support these programs. Thank you.

Sincerely,

(your name)
