Seven Steps to Make a Difference in Our Political System

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.
       - Margaret Mead

  • Realize you can make a difference - all the more so when many other people are apathetic.
  • Vote. Support good candidates.
  • Support local and national campaign finance reform to make "the system" more responsive to we the people. Visit our Campaign Finance Reform Links.
  • Help the candidates of your choice - participate in their campaign.
  • Run for office. Don't let a school board or legislative position go uncontested.
  • Attend school board and city council meetings to make your voice heard on public policy and legislation.
  • Lobby for issues you believe in. You can help change policies affecting millions of people. Visit our article How to Lobby Your Elected Officials and our Lobbying Resources.

Democracy is not something you believe in or a place to hang your hat, but it's something you do. You participate. If you stop doing it, democracy crumbles.
